How these countdowns work

Each countdown is calculated to the start of the event in your own local time zone, so the number of days is never off by one because of a server in a different part of the world. Fixed-date holidays such as Christmas and Halloween always fall on the same calendar date, while moveable ones — Thanksgiving, Easter, Memorial Day and the seasons — are computed from the rules that actually define them (the fourth Thursday of November, the Gregorian Easter formula, the astronomical equinox and solstice, and so on).

When an event passes, its countdown rolls forward to next year automatically. You can also add any event to your calendar as a downloadable .ics file that works with Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, and Outlook.
